The following is a class interview about and written by Anita Schullo.
Currently I work for a state agency as a special education consultant. My primary duties focus on the law, licensure and programming, assessment, paraprofessionals, and general duties under special education. All of which are diverse and keeps me in tuned.
I have been an educator for the past 27 years in various roles. I lived in Alaska for 15 years and first worked as an intinerant special education bush teacher on the Yukon. The first teaching year, the Yukon flooded in the spring and I canoed to my cabin. I flew so often that I was often in the co-pilot seat. Only one plane went down, but the airport fire department was waiting to foam the runway (I’m still here). I also traveled around the state as an education consultant for a Juneau education resource center, I taught high school English in Sitka, and was an elementary teacher in Fairbanks. I spent a lot of time out-of-doors, but now I live in the city and gardening is my choice activity. I completed my PhD from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign several years back. I taught special education courses at the UM Duluth and UAK at Fairbanks.
Most of family lives in Green Bay, WI. I come from a family of nine individuals. All are different, mostly male and, for sure, a fun and funny time.
Since moving back to Madison, I have always had an old recycled golden retriever by my side and a garden to play in. I am a closet artist (painter), but for now I paint in my garden instead of on canvas.
The online learning format challenges me unlike the face to face learning format. Online learning and the possibilities of online teaching is exciting. I like the concept of online learning because it is a more flexible format. Location, location, location is the attraction.
